With over four decades devoted to cardiac medicine, Dr. Vijay Kumar Chopra stands as a cornerstone in interventional cardiology and heart failure management. Currently guiding the Cardiac Sciences department at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket as Senior Director, his journey reflects a lifetime of healing and innovation.

Dr. Chopra built his medical foundation at PGI Chandigarh, where he completed his General medicine residency before specializing cardiology. career path led him through prestigious institutions, including a 25-year tenure as Senior Consultant at Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. His expertise was further recognized through leadership roles at Escorts Heart Institute and later as Director of the Heart Failure Program atMedanta— Medicity.

Academically, Dr. Chopra’s credentials include his MBBS (1972), followed by an MD in Medicine (1976) and DM in Cardiology (1979), forming the backbone of his clinical acumen.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chopra has maintained active engagement with the cardiac community through memberships in key professional bodies. He holds lifetime membership and fellowship in the Cardiological Society of India, while also being recognized as a Fellow by both the American College of Cardiology and European Society of Cardiology. His particular focus on heart failure is evident in his fellowship with the ESC Heart Failure Association and position on the Board of Governors for the Heart Failure Association of India.

The cardiac community has acknowledged Dr. Chopra’s contributions through various honors, including his selection as an International Scholar at Cleveland Clinic. Perhaps most notably, he founded the Heart Failure Association of India in 2013, serving as its inaugural President and establishing a platform for advancing heart failure treatment protocols throughout the country.

Sinha’s trip through cardiac  drug reflects both depth and breadth in his field. After completing his MBBS at Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, he pursued surgical specialization with an MS from Patna Medical College, followed by advanced training in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the prestigious Postgraduate Institute in Chandigarh. Feting the significance of healthcare leadership, he later added an MBA in Healthcare Services and completed Harvard Business School’s Administrative Program in Healthcare Management.

His professional path has taken him through numerous of India’s  reputed medical institutions. Before his current part at Max Saket (which he has held since 2018), Dr. Sinha led cardiac programs at Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital and Paras Group of Hospitals across multiple  locales. His longest term was at Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre in New Delhi, where he served as Chief Cardiac Surgeon and Department Head thirteen times. Beforehand in his career, he gained a transnational perspective as a visiting fellow at Royal Children’s Sanitarium in Melbourne, Australia.

Among associates, Dr. Sinha is particularly known for pioneering work in beating heart surgery  ways. This approach has gained worldwide recognition for its patient benefits,  frequently allowing for quicker recovery times and smaller complications than traditional  styles. Throughout his career, he has specialized in minimally invasive cardiac procedures, complex aortic conditions, and beating heart coronary bypass using total arterial grafts.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Sinha has shaped cardiac surgery’s future by mentoring over 75 medical and paramedical professionals. He maintains active involvement in the field through lifelong enrollments  in the Indian Association of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons and the Cardiological Society of India, while also serving as a  launching member of the Indian College of Cardiology. His commitment to advancing medical knowledge extends to his  part as peer critic for the Indian Journal of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery.

As he continues his work at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dr. Sinha remains  concentrated on combining surgical  invention with compassionate case care — a  gospel that has defined his nearly four- decade career in cardiac  drug.
